You're intended to install (or perhaps remove) new Windows 8? I can not deny that the change is large. My favorite operating system feels different, is fast and confusing, elegant but simplistic. Discover 7 becomes the XP of the modern times
By the way, in XP does not apply directly to my personal convictions. I installed and Vista I liked at the time. I installed and I loved then 7. XP reference is nothing more than a cliche.
Let's begin with the beginning. I tried Windows 8 preview version a few months ago, and indeed did not take the weight of the change coming. For me it was like try Mac OSX or any Linux distribution for probe as they were, to play and to dispose of them. It is that he was already comfortable with Windows 7, it was graceful and useful. I already forgot my constant criticism, because increasingly it cost me more to find them.
Now already going nearly two weeks that my two main computers have Windows 8 Pro installed; I I supported both disks if you regretted me, and I have already deleted the backup.
This will sound like a diary, but strange menu home. What about used constantly, the combination with the search engine allowed you to do everything, it was no longer a launcher of applications; It was a small Explorer of things.
We now have a Windows Phone giant from the first moment that we started the team. And isn't it displeases me my phone, but the spaghetti monster!, this machine does not have it one or two times a day for ten minutes to evacuate to play something light, it is the machine that I use all day.
However, Microsoft isn't a spoiled toddler, would not impose us things without having them tested million times in trained apes, achieving something that will appeal to the majority of subjects and make them more productive finally.
There is a constant review of "how to turn off Windows 8" or the hidden that this option is. I don't really understand why. The physical button off the computer hibernates or suspends the machine (remember that we are no longer on Windows 98 and we trust that our machine will work perfectly for weeks without reset daily).
As I said earlier, the start menu is strange... for a few minutes. Apart from replacing its functions, the home screen adds features like search in applications (imagine you're looking for is a map, song or video) which expose these functions.
There are certain forms of use that should alter, already the concept home is more than nothing (or actually returns to be) an application launcher.
I've heard people who feel all these changes useless, install some application launcher similar to the old home and complements that disabled the home screen. In that case, I'm sure that makes no sense to move to Windows 8.
Modern applications are the future of leisure and light computing for Microsoft. I have heard criticisms and 'futurologistas' that indicate that the traditional desktop will disappear eventually. In my opinion it is impossible to move all applications to this mode, they are perhaps my primitive concepts, but not I can conceptualize a development environment such as Visual Studio on this modality.
For games and entertainment applications is really paradise. For the developer and the user. Programming libraries simplify too all things (there is almost no interaction with things really hardware of the machine), provides clean mechanisms and unified to sell, receive comments and update your application. For the user, there is no record, problems with DLLs, temporary files (storage is isolated) or hazards direct (unless you've selected the same platform has security problems).
Windows is already a mature product to the end. The installation takes a couple of minutes and (at least in my experience) does not request any driver (indeed already updated for example for video drivers, or drivers for wireless cards installed). Startup/shutdown times are insignificant (because parts of the system are selectively hibernadas even in traditional shutdown) and with respect to Windows Vista or 7 it feels very light.
Personally for a desktop PC, I do not think that Windows 8 is big difference with respect to 7, where I most feel their presence is in a ultrabook that I use, and also in some Tablet I want to buy (probably the Surface Pro) in the future, where Android and iPad were not solutions really for me.
Bonus track: errors and details on Windows 8
This section could not miss. It would not be my article without presenting those small details that have come to locate Windows, ancient heritages, inconsistencies in the new operating system:
Elements in alphabetical order... in English
The order of the elements in some menus has no sense!, if you translate the elements you'll realize that they have the original positions that are in the English version.
We have already almost 2 decades of these Tooltips
Those yellow tooltips don't even exist in applications and continue to emerge. When I sent this error for the beta of Windows 7 I was told that it was "by design".. .What more likely is that Bill Gates had established any law when he founded the company with respect to such relics.
By the way, they may be removed through record.
How are you? OK
Unfortunately, in many things we depend on the translators. The system can be perfect, but these details degrades the experience completely.
Me tarzan, you windows
What primate translates new options? Apart from confused, they sound bad! "Item boxes" (why not take advantage of using friendly terms such as "Use check boxes to select"), "Summary view", "Information PC", "Easy access", they sound bad and are too literal translations.
Translation and blind
It is important to revise the elements in any application. In this case is that the text is incorrect, but its length was excessive. By the way, it is sometimes very difficult to adjust texts from English so these problems are more acceptable.
In the first image, selecting elements that do not have "Properties" on certain occasions the combination with other active properties button (but does nothing). The second is the new details pane, this is something already of the opinion, but it seems to me that when I was horizontal, it was much more useful. Now there is no status bar to see how many we have selected and is a nuisance to have this active details pane. And finally I do not understand why this checkbox at the end simply disappears when it can not be used.
A small graphic detail
This is a small detail in the Windows browser. The back button is slightly cut in the part superior when there are pages that are causing a problem (imagine missed them refresh the chart in some redibujados).
Bonus track 2: errors and Office 2013 details
Hand in hand with the new Windows, we have a new Office and unfortunately more details (this is not a very thorough review):
More ancient resources
There are resources so dilapidated that really stand out. Even already having modern resources to replace them.
Another old problem: Bloq Mayús
One of them is Bloq Despl, which is surprisingly useful in Excel, what makes this issue more noticeable.
Office won't save bad location
The first is a mistake for years, "convert text to" (convert to text). The second is a new one, "the text contains" (containing text).
Small details extras
Office sets capital letters for items in the applications menu, however they seem to have forgotten some elements.
